On Sunday, 1 November 2009 Mudgeeraba celebrated its election as the winner of the title as Queensland's Friendliest Town with a Street Party which turned out to be a great success! The Council and its staff, in particular Ted Shepherd (Cr Div 9) made this possible with the help of numerous organisations and business members of the local Chamber of Commerce.
On behalf of the Mudgeeraba Foundation, Earle Hinschen, organiser of the annual D'Arcy Doyle Art Awards Exhibition created and organised the "Kids Artwork Activity" which proved to be a special attraction, showing the children's genuine desires and abilities to express themselves. Two large canvas mats were laid out on the ground and children were encouraged to pick up a brush and paint their own contribution to massive artwork.
In view of the great success of the event, some people suggested that it should have a fixed place in Mudgeeraba's annual or bi-annual calendar.
