At 7am on Saturday morning July 17th, Mudgeeraba hosted the start of a gruelling trek of 96km up through the hinterland. This was the Kokoda Challenge.
The Challenge is to honour the Australian Diggers who fought on the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea in World War II.
There were over 400 teams of 4 participating; some belonged to the Kokoda Kids Challenge Programme. The teams were sponsored to raise money to rehabilitate troubled and struggling teenagers in our society. This has proved to be an extremely successful project.
The Mudgeeraba Police Community Consultative Committee with the grateful support from The Mudgeeraba Foundation proudly sponsored a team of policemen (see photo).
Congratulations go to Barry, Doug, Tom and Tony. After 4 years of trying, our team finished the 2010 Kokoda Challenge intact. It took courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice - well done!
